It has been a quiet week at the Deep River Curling Club.
Games were played on Monday evening and on Thursday evening. Games were also played on Tuesday and Thursday morning. These were the normal routine games.
Low Cup games were played in Renfrew on February 28th. Deep River, however had a bye and had no teams in Renfrew.
March has something else to offer. It will soon be the end of the Curling season. There are end games to look forward to through the month.
There will be no Low Cup games played on Wednesday, March 7th. On the 14th of March the play will be here in Deep River. After that, there will be two more Low Cup games, one in Cobden and Eganville on March 21st and one in Pembroke on March 28th. That will conclude Low Cup activity until next season.
There is a promise of one more Seniors' mini-spiel. That will be held on March 16th. The seniors will continue to curl on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the mornings until the last week of March. Then everyone will be getting ready for gardening, golf and lawn bowling.
The club championships will be held during the week of March 26th. These games will give the evening curlers an opportunity to tie off the season properly.
All of this leaves only the final social event whose date has still to be decided.
We may be coming to the end of the season but it is not too late to discover curling for yourself particularly after you've been watching it on television. Beginners who have never curled before are welcome to come and try out this fascinating sport. The club has made a special fee of $6.00 for Friday night curling. People just have to bring clean in-door running shoes. We will supply the rocks and the brooms. Come out and see what you've been missing.
