On Friday, December 15th, the senior curlers held their Christmas mini-spiel. This popular event is always well subscribed and exciting. There were eight four-person teams in the competition. Each played a game in the morning and another after lunch. Points and ends won counted towards the final score.
Competition was stiff and there were many great shots made. At the end of the day Bill Holtslander's team of Peter Purvis, Wayne Daley and Bob Brown came in first with nineteen points. Ray Kazaboski's foursome with Teresa Misslan, Pat Bindner and Al Lane made it a close second with eighteen points. Martin James with Peter Bunge, Don Beauprie and Peggy Payette tied for third place with Floyd Miller's team of Mike Watson, Charles Van Wagner and Bob Tapp. Both teams had fifteen and a half points. The best part of the day, aside from the fun of good curling, came at the end. There were prizes for all the curlers. Everyone went home happy.
The next Friday night social curling will be on January 5th. The theme that evening will be Garlic Night. Time to get out the garlic bread, the garlic biscuits and the garlic pickles. To encourage more curlers to come out the club has made a special fee of $6.00 for Friday night curling starting in the new year. People just have to bring clean in-door running shoes. Make plans to come out on Friday evening and discover curling.
While the club will be closed for normal activities during Christmas week, a Boxing Day special is being planned. Everyone is invited, curler and non-curler alike to the Boxing Day Spiel. The entry fee is a $10 gift. However, you must sign up at the club before Friday, December 22nd. Two draws are planned along with lunch. Everyone who plays will receive a gift. The Deep River Curling Club, its Executive and its members would like to take this occasion to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
