On March 14th the Deep River Curling Club hosted this week's Low Cup. As usual Deep River had two teams entered. There were also teams from Renfrew, Pembroke, and Cobden/Eganville.
In the morning games Deep River I, consisting of Chris Knight (skip), Gary Allan, Bob Burton and Martin James played to a 5 - 5 tie against team 1 from Renfrew. Deep River II, consisting of Bob French (skip), Pat Kelly, George Burton and John Davies, lost 8 - 4 against Team 2 from Renfrew. In the afternoon Deep River I won 7 - 3 against team 2 from Renfrew. Deep River II played team 1 from Renfrew and lost 10 - 3.
The two Pembroke teams played the team from Cobden and the team from Eganville. Team 1 from Pembroke lost both games. Pembroke Team 2 won over Eganville but lost to Cobden.

Renfrew and Pembroke have only one game remaining, while the others have two games. The next meeting of the Low Cup will be Wednesday, Mar 21 in Cobden and Eganville, . The final game of the season will be in Pembroke on March 28th.
On Friday, March 16th, the Seniors had a mini-spiel. The theme of the day was Irish and several of the players turned up wearing the green. There were eight teams in the competition. An exchange student from Venezuela rounded out the team skipped by Chris Knight.
At the end of morning play the team skipped by Don Ross was in the lead with eleven points, closely followed by Chris Knight's team and Rae Kasaboski's team each with ten points. Martin James' team was only another point back.
At the end of the day Don Ross with Perry Hanson, John Davies and Jean Beauprie were still in first place. Martin James with Peter Bunge, Don Beauprie and Ron Taylor had taken ten more points to take second place. At third place there was a tie between Rae Kasaboski and Bob French. In the end the 3rd place finish was awarded to Rae Kasaboski with Bill Holtslander, Charles Van Wagner and Peggy Payette.
That was the last mini-spiel for this season. A warm round of applause and thanks goes to Lyall Smith and his wife for organizing these very popular events. Well Done, Lyall.
The final event of the Deep River Curling Club year will take place on April 4th. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a Chinese Buffet at $20 a plate. Everyone is cordially invited. At 7:00 p.m. the club will hold its Spring Meeting which will include the election of officers and a review of the Club's activities for the season. At 8:00 p.m. the final game to determine the Club champion for this season will be played. In all, this should be a wonderful wrap up evening for the Curling Club season. Plan to attend.
There is still some Friday night social curling to be had. The last Friday night curling for this season will be on Friday March 30th.
