On Wednesday, January 17th, the Deep River Curling club hosted the Low Cup games. As usual, there were two Deep River teams. The first team was skipped by Bob Burton with Pat Bindner, Gerry Tallon and Charles Van Wagner. The second team consisted of Martin James, Yoshi Imohori, Pat Kelly and Bob Brown.

The first team won its first game 11-5 over Renfrew 1. Then, after lunch, the team suffered a meltdown, losing 1-18 to Renfrew 2. The second Deep River team had two close games losing both to Renfrew 4-10, and 9-10. Arnprior won 3 of 4 games over Pembroke.

Deep River added 18 more points to its total. Renfrew accumulated 34 points. Arnprior has now got an additional 36, as has Pembroke. Renfrew still leads in the standings.

On Friday, January 19th, the club seniors played their January Mini-spiel. There were eight teams entered and each team played two games. The point score was determined as follows: five points for a win and one point for each end won.

At the end of the day Tom Nicks and his team of Mike Watson, Bob Tapp and Al Lane was in first place with 40 points. The second place team was Don Morrison with Peter Bunge, Bob Burton, and Peggy Pacquette. Don had accumulated 18 points. In third place with 14 points was Rae Kasaboski. On his team he had John Davis, Janice Bunge and Lyall Smith. There were two teams tied for fourth place with 13 points. The first was the team of Martin James, Teresa Mislan, Pat Bindner and Jean Beauprie. The other was the team of Wayne Daley, Bill Holtslander, Don Beauprie and Hugh Taylor.

The next Friday night social curling will be on January 26th. Curling will start at 7.30pm. Come out and discover curling for yourself. Beginners who have never curled before are very welcome. The club has made a special fee of $6.00 for Friday night curling. To participate just bring clean in-door running shoes. Make plans to come out on Friday evening.

The "Curl for Cancer 2007" is being co-sponsored by the Deep River Curling Club and the Canadian Cancer Society. A one-day Bonspiel is planned for Saturday, February 10th. Members and non-members are encouraged to form teams of four to six participants. The entry fee is $60 per team. The first sixteen teams will be accepted.
