The Deep River Invitational Bonspiel, held on February 9th, 10th and 11th was a success. Twenty-six teams registered. The trophy offered to the 'A' league winners was donated by Reg McLeod to commemorate his 50 years in curling. Reg had built the trophy with help from Harry Spenceley. The crystal bowl on top was purchased in Florida. The centre column is a crystal vase bought in Ottawa. The square wooden base is made of black walnut from Pennsylvania. On each corner of the wooden base there were tiny crystal curling rocks which had been purchased in. There are pictures of the trophy on the club web site. It can also be found in the trophy case at the club.

Friday night social curling continues with the next gathering being on March 2nd. Curling will start at 7.30pm. We may be coming to the end of the season but it is not too late to discover curling for yourself particularly after you've been watching it on television. Beginners who have never curled before are very welcome. The club has made a special fee of $6.00 for Friday night curling. People just have to bring clean in-door running shoes. We will supply the rocks and the brooms. Make plans to come out on Friday evening.
