A broken Brine pump, cause of the a delay in Deep River curling starting-ice, has been repaired by Pat Kelly and Evans Harrison. With assistance and advice from Peter Bunge, Pat and Evans used home made tools to take out the leaking pump-packing and then repacked to return the pump into working order.
Initial floods by the team of ice-makers have built up the ice to the point where it is expected that painting will start around Monday 9th to Tuesday 10th October. Assuming no unseasonally hot weather affects the ice, the ice-makers should know for sure by the 15th of October if the ice can be ready for the weekend of 21st of October.
The team of volunteer ice-makers for this year include Julian Bayley, Ken Deugau, Evans Harrison, Pat Kelly, Ray Walker, and Ken Wright; plus several handy spares. Making good curling-ice requires careful and dedicated preparation. Volunteers and occasional spares are welcome, and if interested should contact Pat Kelly by phone on 613-584-4004 or mail at PO Box 639, Deep River, K0J 1P0.

Starting-ice for curling was expected for the weekend of the 14th of October. At the Friday night wine, cheese and annual general meeting, Pat Kelly (Ice and Property) reported problems with a brine pump used for ice-making. Attempts to fix the over 20 year old pump have not been successful and it now looks like replacement may have to be purchased and installed before ice-making can start. If there is a delay on starting-ice, members will be informed via the club website and the NRT.
