With the main theme of showing what is practical and possible with the
latest powder diffraction software; and thanks to resources provided by
the EPDIC (European Powder Diffraction Conference) conference
organisers, there will be a free software workshop as part of the
EPDIC-9 Prague, Czech Republic conference registration. This will be located in
the Faculty of Civil Engineering, at the
Czech Technical University, Prague (Map).
A variety of speakers will show participants some of the advanced
features in available crystallographic software.
For the presenters, 2 Windows PCs with MS-Powerpoint, 2 data projectors (for disaster redundancy)
as well as laser pointers and microphones will be provided. Windows friendly powder diffraction
software can be installed by the organisers on behalf of presenters the day before if they wish
to give live software demonstrations.
The main aim is to have 20 minute live sessions that show 1 to 2
problems on using the power tools in the various powder diffraction
software packages in handling tricky problems that might not
appreciated.
When speakers and software to be shown are finalized, it is requested
that participants will read up on the software prior to the workshop.
Weblinks will be provided as talks are confirmed (CD-ROMs can be
sent with most of the software and information to those isolated
from the internet). Thus presenters can go straight into their
software demonstrations with very minimal introduction.
A free light breakfast from 8am to 9am ; morning tea/coffee, a light
lunch and afternoon tea/coffee is provided as part of the workshop.
Registration for both Size-Strain workshop and EPDIC IX will be located in
the main conference building, Faculty of Civil Engineering,

beginning of the workshop has been shifted to 15.30.
